Description

47 Tucanae is the 2nd largest example of a Globular Cluster in our Milky Way Galaxy, of which there are about 180. It contains over 1 Million stars and is ~16,700 Light Years away in the 'halo' of the galaxy. In dark southern hemisphere skies, it is easily visible to the naked eye as a 'fuzzy star'. GC's are very old and stable structures, probably formed during early galaxy formation and collected from multiple galaxy collisions in the 10-12 billions years since the galaxy formed.
